क्या सचमुच में राजा अग्रसेन हमारे पिता थे?
हम सभी अग्र बंधुओं के बीच में एक मान्यता प्रचलित है, कि हम सभी राजा अग्रसेन की संतान हैं। और उन के 18 पुत्रों के साढ़े सत्रह गोत्रो से हमारी स्थापना हुई है । ऐसी मान्यता है, कि राजा अग्रसेन ने यज्ञ करके 18 ऋषियों के नाम पर, जो उनके यज्ञ मैं पुरोहित थे, साढे सत्रह गोत्रो की स्थापना की और आदेश दिया की आने वाली पीढ़ियां इन गोत्रों में अपनी शादियां करेंगे|
अगर हम व्यवहारिक दृष्टिकोण से सोचे तो राजा अग्रसेन के शादी के समय की उम्र , उनके 18 पुत्रों के जन्म में लगने वाला समय उनके 18 पुत्रों के लिए 18 पुत्रियां, उनके पुत्रों एवं पुत्रियों के युवावस्था के आने का समय और उनकी शादियां , और उसके बाद उनकी पुत्रों के बच्चों की शादियां , कहीं से भी व्यावहारिक नहीं लगती है|
पुनः यदि विचार करें तो राजा अग्रसेन एक धर्म परायण राजा के रूप में जाने जाते थे और हिंदू धर्म के प्रति गहरी आस्था रखते थे ऐसी परिस्थिति में वह सगे भाई-बहनों के बीच विवाह पद्धति की शुरुआत कराएं और उसके लिए सर्वसम्मति से उन्हें समर्थन मिला हो ऐसा प्रतीत नहीं होता, सगे भाई-बहनों के बीच में किसी भी परिस्थिति में विवाह की अनुमति हिंदू धर्म में नहीं है तो राजा अग्रसेन जैसा धर्म परायण राजा कभी ऐसा नहीं कर सकते|
तो आखिर सच क्या है?
दरअसल राजा अग्रसेन के राज्य में उन्हें एक पिता का दर्जा मिला हुआ था और प्रजा उन्हें पिता तुल्य ही मानती थी राजा अग्रसेन ने अपने राज्य के वैश्य समाज को 18 विभिन्न जनपदों मे विभक्त कर दिया और यज्ञ के द्वारा 18 जनपदों के लिए 18 गोत्रों की स्थापना कर दी ताकि रक्त की शुद्धता बनी रहे | राजा अग्रसेन की आज्ञा अनुसार आगे के सालों में सभी शादी विवाह इन्हीं जनपदों के बीच में संपन्न की जाती थी | राजा अग्रसेन ने इन्हें इनके लिए 20 नियम बनाए और एक रुपया, एक ईंट के परंपरा की शुरुआत की| बाद के समय में आने वाली पीढ़ियों ने इस परंपरा को अलग अलग स्थानों में रहने के बाद भी कायम रखा और अग्रसेन के नाम पर अपने नाम के टाइटल को अग्रवाल रखा|
